As you get further underway, you’ll hopefully experience what we did: excitement creates more excitement. Put another way, progress creates more progress. That means the community’s capacity for volunteering, donating, contributing and supporting an effort is not a fixed amount.
What does that mean? The key is doing something. The best time is now. It is satisfying to know you’re helping other people. Interest in your effort is contagious. We are calling this the Volunteer Domino Effect.
Start where you can with who you can, and let that excitement be shared with others. Many people naturally want to be a part of something. Demonstrating you’re doing something will lead others to want to be a part of it.
The more people know about the opportunities to help, the better. Once they begin to volunteer—to give back—they’re often hooked. It provides them with a lot of joy and meaning.
